Lifted Quarantine and Depression

I started the quarantine strong. I sought out a story and completed a small documentary on my hometown. After that was a string of failed videos and photo documentaries.

It has been rough to say the very least. With no solid outlet for creativity, I became lost and sank into dark waters.

Quarantine has been lifted locally now. Businesses are getting back to normal. A lot of people expect a second resurgence of the virus because of it. They may be right, but the reprieve has been monumental to my health. I know people won’t condone my actions, but I took this time to go back out shooting. I slapped on my Fujinon 50mm F2 and a mask.

Tourists in Saint Augustine

Tourists in Saint Augustine

Saint Augustine never really stopped. There was maybe a few weeks of a crawl. My excursion in early May revealed tourism starting up again. Not many people were wearing masks, but people were practicing the 6 foot social distance. Very few shops were open. The ones who were doing food only served it as to-go.

The streets were decently empty.

The next week was even more crowded. Even with the summer showers all day. Now there’s relatively no tourists wearing masks. Most stores are, but there’s a definite attitude that the pandemic is over. Asking some of the locals, they’re just done with the event. Every native working person on Saint George Street hasn’t been able to work until recently. Pay is poor, and they’re struggling. Shops have closed down because of the high price of renting spots. You either die from starvation or die from Covid. Atleast one of them gives you agency.
